Project history

ICEggs and SpillView are Canadian Coast Guard initiatives, designed to improve data collection capacity during aerial observation flights required for environmental response management and ice observation missions. Officers use a tablet computer in the aircraft during reconnaissance flights and during ground management operations.

The Canadian Coast Guard, under the auspices of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, launched an initiative to develop a new technology that would support their operational requirements during reconnaissance flights. They asked Cogéni to conceive and develop the software.

Following the positive response received by the CCG and its partner, Cogéni decided to develop a commercial version of the system able to meet the high expectations of the international market. A serious initiative was undertaken not only to develop the software, but also to set up the infrastructure needed to support clients during the product integration phase and throughout the product life cycle.

The technologies developed include :

The SpillView system used by the Environmental Intervention Division of the Canadian Coast Guard, mainly for the purpose of capturing on-site information on oils spills.

The ICEggs system, developed in collaboration with the Canadian Ice Service of Environment Canada, which has, in the last three years, become the official tool for ice observation flights, ice information management and ship routing.
